Seahorse

Artist's Statement

I am a fine art photographer currently studying at the Glasgow School of Art. My work deals with ‘the Photographic Condition’ often using recreations of historical photographic techniques to explore the history and the nature of the medium of photography.

In my recent project ‘Seahorses’ I explore notions of the body by photographing dead seahorses that have been passed down to me. Photographed in isolation, their exoskeletons become disembodied and removed from their natural state, where they serve to act as metaphors of the body, and its tensions between the beautiful and the abject.
